Make it Real REACH Rug

A REACH Rug is the ideal way to bring REACH to life in your training, presentations and at the office. This bright and colorful rug has been designed to grab the attention of your participants and encourage them to get up and moving. Introducing physical movement into activities has been proven to change mindsets and perspectives.

Below are a few recommended activities that can be used to maximize the impact of the Make it Real REACH Rug.

Activity 1: Make it real REACH Rug Training Session Warm Up

This activity is ideal for training groups of around 6- 8 participants.

Get your participants to move around the REACH RUG for the “REACH in Two Questions” activity that is available in your REACH Corporate Training Materials.

Activity 2: Make it Real REACH Rug Role Play

The REACH Rug can be used with the role-play and fish-bowl activities from your REACH Corporate Training Materials. Using the REACH Rug can provide many variations to your activities and can deliver insightful outcomes. Whilst participating in these activities ask participants to stand in the different quadrants and behave in that style. They can be guided by the style markers that are listed on the REACH Rug in that quadrant. Debriefing activities such as conflict resolution, delegation and customer service can bring some real aha moments to a training session. Imagine the power of an Advisor managing conflict between two Drivers or a Counselor dealing face to face with an irate customer who is a Driver.

Activity 3: Make it real REACH Rug in Your Office Space

The REACH Rug can bring color and life to your office space but most importantly it can bring REACH to top of mind. Keep REACH concepts alive by using this tool with your team reminding them of the various REACH styles and how they can reach others by thinking outside their style.

Learn to REACH Caps

REACH Caps are the perfect visual tool for participants that want to extend their REACH. They can practice “Thinking” in different REACH styles by incorporating them into almost any group activity. Participants learn to not only appreciate the strengths of their own REACH Style but also of the REACH Styles of others. REACH Caps were originally designed for an activity called “Thinking in Color” which we have provided here.

Learn to REACH Caps Activity: Thinking in Color

Extend the learning outcomes of your interactive activities and role-playing by Thinking in Color with Learn to REACH Caps. Allocate a REACH Cap to each of your participants that is NOT their REACH Style/Quadrant. When wear the particular REACH Cap for the activity or role play they must focus on behaving and “thinking” in that particular REACH Style/Quadrant.

Having participants act and think as a different REACH Style/Quadrant that is not the way they would usually behave or approach a problem, they learn to appreciate the different communication , conflict handing , delegating, planning and learning styles of others that will allow them to increase their REACH.

Learn to REACH Labels are designed as a more versatile way to bring REACH into activities and to top of mind. They work especially well in larger team and networking style activities. Each participant can wear their REACH Style/Quadrant as a name tag. This provides the participants that they are interacting with a easy and quick way to identify strengths and guide the communication styles.

Taking REACH back to the office or work space is easy with the Learn to REACH Labels. After team activities and networking the Learn to REACH Label can be stuck to an individual’s computer monitor or workstation. This can help guide those who interact with the individual to their key communication and learning strengths which can lead to more productive outcomes.

REACH to my Team Visualizer

Keep REACH top of mind in training sessions and every day in the office with a REACH to my Team Visualizer. This bright and colorful poster format tool can help you and your team understand their REACH and the REACH of those around them.

This dynamic visualizer is designed to be used in conjunction with the REACH Team Insights Report and it allows for flexibility when participants grow their REACH.

To get the best use the REACH to my Team Visualizer we have provided some guidelines.

  • Affix the REACH to my Team Visualizer to a wall with blutac or adhesive strips. It is recommended that it placed in a clearly visible and easy to access location so participants can reference it on a regular basis.
  • Generate a REACH Team Insights Report from the REACH Ecosystem of all the participants who will be using the visualizer. This will give a position on the REACH grid of everyone participating.
  • Gather all participants together to plot their locations on the visualizer with sticky dots. One by one ask each participant to come up and place their dot on the visualizer guiding them with the TEAM Insights Report. It is recommended that participants put their initials on the sticky dot so they can easily locate themselves and other later.
  • As each participant places their dot, participants will become engaged, talking and learning more about the dynamic of the group.
  • When you execute this activity with participants that have not seen their REACH score, they begin to develop a sense of self-awareness, their strengths, their weakness and the same about those around them.
  • The REACH to my Team Visualizer is a great way to keep your Team informed about their dynamics and how they can work better together. It can also be revisited on a regular basis, people can be removed, added or moved around simply by moving the dots.

Play to our strengths REACH Cards

Build confidence, awareness of self, appreciation of diversity, collaboration and team synergy with the Play to our strengths REACH Cards. Originally created as part of a Productive People Advantage Course (PPA). This card activity promotes self- reflection, personal, leadership and cultural growth as well as building REACH within participants.

Below are the instructions on how to use Play to our Strengths REACH Cards in a game called Strengths Poker.

Strengths Poker using Play to our strengths REACH Cards

In Strengths Poker, participants aim to end up with 3 cards that resonate most with themselves.

To start the game they are dealt 7 cards, and start by discarding the 2 that ‘speak’ to them least, then depending on how you want to play the game (and how long you have) they discard and pick up and trade with other players.

In the trading with other players, you encourage two dialogues “I see you have a _____ card, I relate to that well, can I trade you for a _____ card, which can go on for a round or two if you have plenty of time. People can refuse and discuss why they refuse that specific trade.

The most impactful interpersonal (Team Synergy and REACH building) dialogue comes with the later round(s) where a person offers a card to someone else – “I have a ‘trustworthy’ card – I am offering this to you because how you talk, what you do and when you did ______ the other day it demonstrated to me that you are trustworthy, and I appreciate and admire that about you” (trust worthy is just an example, this could also be inspirational, creative, warm etc).

A round or two Strengths Poker of this usually brings up tears where people are expressing admiration and receiving gratitude in a way they don’t normally do. Both perspectives are equally impactful.

Keep it Alive REACH Cubes

Keep it Alive REACH Cubes build empathy and grow an appreciation for thinking differently. They encourage productive and positive interactions in the workplace, workshop or personal development sessions. They can be used in any creative way to grow REACH and below are a few recommended activities that can be used to maximize the impact of the REACH Cubes.

Activity 1: Keep it Alive REACH Cubes Thinking Outside the Square

When your participants are taking part in workshops, training and personal development sessions change up the thinking by providing them with a REACH Cube. The participants then use the information on the cube to guide their thinking, behaviors and interactions with others. What cube have they been allocated and what cubes do others have?

Advisor Cube: Focused on detail and doing?

Coach Cube: Focused on People and Action?

TIP: Allocate participants a REACH Cube that is not their REACH Style encourage empathy building and appreciation for the strength of thinking differently.

Activity 2: Keep it Alive REACH Cubes Grow REACH in your space

After REACH has been introduced using the REACH Training participants can keep REACH alive in their workplace by taking a set of Keep it Alive REACH Cubes back to their workspace.

By using the Keep it Alive REACH Cubes on a regular basis, participants personal REACH and the REACH of those around can be grown with these great ideas:

1. The Desk Stack

Stack the REACH Cubes on your desk and on top of the stack place the cube that is reflecting your current REACH zone.

Ensure that you have the side that says “Thanks for dropping by, right now I am in my __________ quadrant” facing outward so those approaching your work space know how you are feeling and acting at that current time.

This is designed to help those around you recognise different behaviors/responses they may or may not receive from you based on the situation and REACH zone.

2. Think Before I Act

Use your REACH Cubes to be mindful of your interactions with others.

Whilst interacting use the cubes to review your behaviors and actions. Take up the cube of the quadrant you currently feel you are in and review these sides:

Think Before I Act: Is this what I need to be right now?

Flip the cube over to the side of the profile overview and think about the style in which you are Communicating, Conflict-handling, Delegating etc.

Is this what you need to be to REACH the person you are interacting with?

If not find the REACH Cube that best suits the situation and maximizes your REACH with that person and use the profile overview on the cube to help guide your interaction.
